Medicines are the drug which are therapeutic and used for diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases.
Classes of Drugs:-
1. Antiseptics-
Dettol, Savlon, Cetavelon, Acriflavin, Iodine, Methylene blue, Mercurochrome, Furacine, Soframicine.
*Dettol is a mixture of chloroxylenol & terpineol.
2. Disinfectants-
1% of solution of phenol in disinfectant while 0.2% solution of phenol is antiseptic.
3.Analgesics-
(a) Narcotics- Morphine, Codeine, Heroin.
(b) Non-narcotics- Aspirin, Novalgin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen.
4.Antipyretics-
Analgin(Novalgin), Paracetamol, Phenacetin, Aspirin.
5.Antimalarials-
Quinine, Chloroquine, Paraquine, Primaquine.
6.Tranquilizers-
Benzedrine (amphetamine), Iproniazid, Phenelzine.
7.Anesthetics-
(a) General:
Gaseous form- Nitrous oxide, Ethylene
Liq. Form- Chloroform, Divinyl ether
(b) Local anaesthetics:
Jelly form- Oxylocain
Spray form- Ethyl chloride
Injection form- Procain
8.Antibiotics-
Ofloxacin, Ampicillin, Amoxycillin, Dysidazirine etc.
*Dysisazirine- toxic toward certain strain of cancer cell.
9.Antacids-
Ranitidine (Zantac)
10.Antihistamine-
Brompheniramine (Dimetapp),
Terfenadine (Seldane).
